We want to make sure that you get the most out of your 5 day retreat. The tips and information below will help you with a deep retreat experience.. It will also help you decide if this is the right retreat for you at this time.
What are the retreat dates? When can I come?
I like to offer these retreats when my schedule of classes is light. This way I am more available for you.
The retreats start on a Monday at 10.00am and finish on a Friday at about 11.00am. We can make it for a week that is suited to both of us. You can send in your expression of interest by filling in the form at the bottom of this page.
What do you do on this retreat? What does a day look like?
Every day is a little different, and a mix of time with me and personal time.
Each day you’ll have at least one session with me of 1.5 hours, usually in the mornings. There is ample time for informal interaction through out the day.
I encourage quiet time in the afternoons to help absorb the learning from the morning session. Afternoon is time for activities such as creative writing, journalling, art therapy, nature activities, reading from our vast collection of books on personal and spiritual growth, free time and anything else that helps you dive deep into yourself.
The week offers a good balance between personal time and time for individual guidance. There is time to engage in discussion and time to observe silence. There is time to participate in active work and time to curl up with book.
I’m looking for somewhere to go to for rest and relaxation. Is this the right retreat for me?
If your desire for rest and relaxation is accompanied by a longing to grow and develop, you’ll find the retreat helpful. You’ll gain tools that will help you well after the retreat is over. It’s much more than a rest and relaxation retreat.
Do you offer physical therapies like massage?
No I don’t offer massage. This retreat is focused on personal practice and being able to tap into your inner fountain of peace and joy. The more you can access these states within yourself, the greater the inner strength you’ll experience.
To nourish the physical body, I offer yoga practices including restorative yoga . You’ll also be treated to a deep foot bath upon arrival.
There are massage practitioners in the area and I can give you contact details if you wish to have a massage.
Tips for a Deep Retreat Experience
Unplug from your electronic devices like phones, iPad, tablets and laptops
I cannot emphasize this enough.
Messages coming from these devices keep your energy moving outwards. Where your energy is, there your mind will be, stopping you from diving deep into your Self. Retreat guests who can keep off their devices have a much deeper experience than those who stay in constant communication with their family, friends and work.
Make prior arrangements with your family, friends, work colleagues and anyone else you interact with frequently in your daily life. Let them know that you’ll be away and will not be contactable by email or phone. This way you can keep your devices turned off the entire time you are retreating. The more you can disconnect from the world and your habitual patterns, the deeper your experience of the retreat.
There is little to be gained being here in body only with your mind elsewhere.
You can give the Narrows Retreat contact details to your loved ones in case of a true emergency.
Keep an Open Heart
During the week we’ll do many activities from yoga and meditation through to art therapy and getting guidance in alternative ways. Remain open to new ways and experiences. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Say YES to Meditation
If you sincerely want to feel more peace, joy and freedom in your life, learn to meditate. With the right meditation techniques, you can experience transformation like nothing else can bring.
While completely optional, take this opportunity to say YES to meditation. It’s the best gift you can give yourself.
Say YES to a day of Silence
Towards the end of the week, you’ll have an option to enjoy a day in seclusion which is a day in silence and inner communion. If you’ve not done this before, it can seem a little scary. But not to worry.
We’ll build up to this day of silence. You’ll learn ways to keep the energy up and your mind uplifted. There will be activities you can do so you can enjoy a deeply rewarding practice.
Silence can be profoundly healing at all levels.
Journaling
When you first arrive, we’ll give you a journal. I encourage you to use this journal to write your thoughts and insights. Make notes of your learning. Past guests have found this to be a helpful tool for self reflection and to help reconnect with the positive feelings captured in the journal well after the retreat is over.
Come as a guest and leave as a friend
As we work so closely with you for a full week, not only will I get to know you deeply, but you’ll get to know me. It’s a completely authentic experience. You’ll come as a guest and you’ll leave as a friend.
